Devon Avenue, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, Lancashire, BB5 4LS
Accrington Golf Club was originally founded in 1893 as a 9 hole course situated on top of the coopice overlooking Accrington. In 1908 the club moved to its current location, again originally as a 9 hole golf course which was later re-arranged and added to to create the 18 hole course which opened in 1928 and the input of a certain james Braid was sort to “tighten up the course”.\r\n\r\nOffering a challenge to golfers of all handicaps the course stands at 6031 yards from the white tees with a par and standard scratch of 70. Opening with a dificult par 3 that attractive tree lined course incorporates two par 5s, one on each of the front and back nine. The sixth hole plays as stroke index 1, a long par 4 which requires a well struck uphill drive before playing in to a small green, on the face of it it appears innocuous but it has the potential to be a card breaker. The par 3 twelfth hole is the Accrington Golf Clubs signature hole, a lovely hole with water short of the green and a bunker to the left it provides a birdie opportunity after a good tee shot in to the testing green.
